Fair attendees belly-up for needy

FARMINGTON – Davis County Fair attendees literally bellied-up this summer, donating collectively more than six tons of food to the Family Connection Center.

The county fair, held Aug. 17-20 at the Legacy Events Center in Farmington, offered patrons a parking rate discount in exchange for a non-perishable donated food items.

The county collected from its fair-attendees 12,855 pounds of food for the four-day event, said Megan Hatch, Davis County Fair Coordinator.

The total amount of food delivered to the Family Connection Center in Clearfield and Layton is 1,855 pounds more than what officials collected at last year’s event, Hatch said.

“That was huge,” Hatch said.

Because there is no gate with admission to the Davis County Fair being free, Hatch said, she does not have a count of how many people actually attended this year’s event. However, she said, officials parked 1,500 more vehicles than they did last year.
