SALT LAKE CITY -- A 24-year-old Salt Lake County man accused of beating his 44-year-old girlfriend to death has been ordered to stand trial.
James Raphael Sanchez was bound over for trial after a Tuesday preliminary hearing on murder and obstruction of justice charges in the death of Angela Michelle Jenkins.
Sanchez told detectives he and Jenkins started arguing around 8 p.m. on May 4. Police say Sanchez pulled Jenkins' hair, slapped, kicked, bit and choked her.
Authorities say the abuse continued for 10 hours before the victim lost consciousness.
Sanchez told police he tried to clean up Jenkins' body with hydrogen peroxide.
Detectives say Sanchez showed remorse when he found Jenkins had died. A defense attorney called the attack tragic and raised questions about Sanchez's intent.
An arraignment is set for Nov. 18.
