Herschel Walker to say hello to WSU

If you can break free for lunch, this might be a speaker worth listening to.

Former football standout Herschel Walker will speak on mental health issues on Nov. 8 at Weber State University. The event -- sponsored by Student Involvement and Leadership and the WSU athletic department -- will be held at noon at the Shepherd Union Wildcat Theater. The event is free to the public.

In his 2008 memoir, "Breaking Free," Walker revealed his battle with dissociative identity disorder, a mental illness previously known as multiple personality disorder.

Beacause of the disorder, he claimed he couldn't even remember winning college football's Heisman Trophy.

A former college, USFL and NFL football star, Walker also competed in the 1992 Winter Olympics in the two-man bobsled, and has competed in tae kwon do and mixed martial arts.

WSU SAAC

The name is a mouthful, but the Weber State Student Athletic Advisory Committee has a great purpose. All the schools in the Big Sky Conference have formed SAACs to provide service in the community, promote understanding of student-athlete issues and foster conference understanding.

Earlier this month, Weber State's SAAC and the other schools started a sixth-month food drive competition. On Oct. 14, Wildcat athletes spent the afternoon at the Boys and Girls Club in Ogden.
