SALT LAKE CITY -- A Salt Lake County prosecutor has sued The Salt Lake Tribune because of a story the paper ran claiming the attorney made a racial slur during a staff meeting.
Michaela Andruzzi says in documents filed last week in state court that the Oct. 23, 2010, story was based on an internal report leaked to the newspaper for political reasons.
The Tribune story reported Andruzzi said then-District Attorney Lohra Miller, a Republican, would be re-elected because of the ethnicity of her Democratic opponent Simarjit Gill.
Andruzzi says staffers who supported Gill made the allegations against him. She was cleared of any wrongdoing by county investigators in December 2010.
Andruzzi is seeking $500,000 in damages because she says she was demoted and has fewer job prospects.
The newspaper declined comment.
