Teen boy hit, killed by car in W. Jordan on way to school

WEST JORDAN -- Authorities say a 13-year-old boy has died after being hit by a car in West Jordan on his way to middle school.

West Jordan police say Collin Worland and two friends were headed east across the street just before 7:30 a.m. Wednesday. The two friends safely crossed but Worland was hit by a northbound car and died at the scene near West Hills Middle School.

Police say the boys opted not to use a crosswalk less than 200 yards away that was within a reduced-speed school zone and was manned by a crossing guard.

Police are continuing to investigate but say it does not appear the car involved was speeding.
