Utah truck driver charged in construction zone crash

KETCHUM, Idaho -- A Utah truck driver has been charged with felony vehicular manslaughter for a construction zone crash that killed an Idaho woman this summer.

The Idaho Mountain Express reports (http://bit.ly/sDweJu) 47-year-old Byrus Lyndon Gatewood of West Valley, Utah, was charged on Oct. 26 for the June 28 death of 62-year-old Dayle Evan Fowler of Hailey. Gatewood made an initial court appearance in Jerome County Magistrate Court on Friday and posted a $25,000 bond.

A preliminary hearing is set for Nov. 17.

Idaho State Police reported that Fowler was out of her vehicle and waiting at a construction zone on U.S. Highway 93 near Jerome in south-central Idaho when Gatewood failed to stop. The tractor-trailer he was driving hit Fowler, her vehicle and two other stopped cars.
