OGDEN -- Weber State women's cross country coach Paul Pilkington has been named the 2011 Big Sky Conference women's cross country coach of the year after leading the Wildcats to the Big Sky title last weekend.
This is Pilkington's first coach of the year honor, who is in his fifth season as head coach of the Wildcats.
Pilkington led the Wildcat women to their fifth Big Sky cross country title last weekend in Pocatello, Idaho. It was Weber State's first title since 2006. The Wildcats scored 40 points in the meet to finish 10 points ahead of second place Idaho State. The last time WSU won the title was in 2006. Weber State finished the meet in Pocatello with 40 points, which was just 10 points ahead of second-place Idaho State.
Weber State sophomore Amber Henry won the Big Sky individual title with a time of 17:30.50, which was the third individual title for the Wildcats and the first since 2007. WSU finished with all eight runners in the top 20 and its five scoring runners were in the top 15.
Northern Arizona's Eric Heins was named the Big Sky men's cross country coach of the year after leading the Lumberjacks to the title. The WSU men's team finished second in the conference meet.
Pilkington will lead the Wildcats to the NCAA Mountain Region Championships on Nov. 12 in Provo.
