The United Way of Northern Utah and Weber Human Services Volunteer Center would like to highlight United Way Turkey Drive.
As the holidays approach, all the agencies in Northern Utah are looking ahead to see what will be needed to make this a joyous season. The United Way Turkey Drive is scheduled to run from Nov. 12-19. Over 1,000 turkeys and/or small hams are needed to fill holiday baskets at the Joyce Hansen Hall Food Bank.
Dropoff locations are the food bank at 2504 F Avenue, the Standard-Examiner, 332 Standard Way (in Business Depot Ogden) during office hours or at United Way of Northern Utah, 2955 Harrison Blvd., from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. every day but Sunday.
Individual opportunities
The Salvation Army is in need of volunteers to assist with registration for the Toys for Tots program. This application/screening process is planned for Nov. 9-19 at the chapel at 2615 Grant Ave., Ogden. They will also need warehouse help after their drive is over and volunteers for distribution on Dec. 21 and 23.

The Girl Scouts of Utah are looking for troop leaders or co-leaders to work with groups of young girls teaching them life skills. Contact Vicky Gooding at 801-716-5114 or vgooding@gsutah.org. The GSU also is looking for volunteers for their program committee to plan the USA 100th Anniversary Yearlong Celebration. Catholic Community Services of Northern Utah needs holiday help in the food warehouse for all of November and December, help collecting food items (holiday food as well as regular food drive items with a stable shelf life) , and needs a driver to help with senior site deliveries one time per month. RSVP needs seniors 55 and over to become trainers for a bone strengthening and fall prevention class. It will be free for seniors and taught in Senior Centers. The class is called "lift.turn.live." and is a great way to become healthier and live a happier longer life. Ogden Regional Hospital and the Newman Center of Weber State University are hosting their annual Thanksgiving Charity Run/Walk on Nov. 25. Registration is at 8:15 a.m. with the 5-mile run/2-mile walk scheduled to start at 9:15 a.m. Participants are asked to bring non-perishable food items or donations as their entry fee.
