SALT LAKE CITY -- Nineteen people are facing cocaine-related charges in Salt Lake City after an FBI investigation into drug trafficking by the Belizean Bloods street gang.
A 25-count federal indictment unsealed Friday charges the suspects with money laundering and cocaine possession, distribution and conspiracy.
The case started in 2009 when FBI agents began investing the street gang's operations in Chicago and Evanston, Ill. FBI agents found the gang's drug distribution route included Utah.
Court documents show the gang is mostly made up of immigrants from Belize who are living in the United States.
More than 150 law enforcement personnel in the Salt Lake City area teamed up early Wednesday morning to take suspects into custody. Eleven had been arrested by Friday morning.
Twenty-four people have been charged in a related investigation in Chicago.
