Prep football: Eagles soar into 1-A final with dominant performance

HEBER CITY -- Overcoming four straight losses to open the season, the Layton Christian Academy Eagles defeated Monticello 35-6 on Saturday in the state 1-A football semifinals at Wasatch High School.

The Eagles (6-5) rushed for more than 200 yards and played strong defense throughout. Nick Edwards ran for a 71-yard TD and caught a 52-yard scoring strike for the Eagles. Eliyah Mayberry, Brandon Faison and Jacques Carter each added rushing TDs.

Defensively, Josh Hawes, Colin Greenhill and Jake Warden the led the charge. Hawes recovered a pair of fumble, and had eight tackles and a quarterback sack. Greenhill added six tackles, an interception and fumble recovery.

The Eagles will meet Duchesne at noon next Saturday for the 1-A championship. The site will be determined in the next couple of days.

Duchesne defeated Rich 46-0.
