Utah job growth on the rise, unemployment down

SALT LAKE CITY -- Figures from labor officials show Utah's stalled job market is beginning to see movement with 33,000 jobs added in the state from September 2010 to last month.

The number was 2.8 percent more than the same period last year, and September was the fourth consecutive month with at least 2 percent job growth.

The newspaper reports the number of unemployed Utah residents in September totaled 99,400. A year ago, the number was more than 103,000.

Some residents, however, say the numbers have yet to translate into jobs for them.

Department of Workforce Services officials say it will take time for more jobs to trickle down through communities, but that offerings are on the rise.
