DONNA, Texas -- Investigators say a driver has surrendered after two LDS missionaries on bicycles were killed and a third was hurt after being hit by a car in South Texas.
Department of Public Safety Trooper Johnny Hernandez says the victims wore helmets and were using bicycle lights when they were struck by the oncoming car around 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Hernandez said Wednesday that it was dark during the wreck in Donna and the driver, from Mexico, ran away but later surrendered at a port of entry. Charges are pending.
DPS hasn't released the names of the two men who died.
A statement from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints identified the survivor as 19-year-old Zachary Todd Harris of Huntsville, Ala. A spokeswoman at Knapp Medical Center in Weslaco (WES'-luh-koh) says Harris was treated and released.
