Gonzalez voted MLS defender of year; edges out RSL's Olave and Borchers

NEW YORK -- Omar Gonzalez of the MLS Cup finalist Los Angeles Galaxy has been voted the league's defender of the year.

Gonzalez, who turned 23 on Oct. 11, became the youngest player to win the award.

In voting by players, media and club officials announced Wednesday, Gonzalez received 94.5, followed by Real Salt Lake's Jamison Olave (50.7) and Nat Borchers (21.5). The total equals the percentage of votes received from each of the three groups added together.
