Vehicles prohibited on ice at city pond in Farmington

FARMINGTON -- Safety concerns have led to a decision by local officials to make Farmington Pond inaccessible by vehicle to ice fishermen this winter.

City officials will close the gate accessing the pond during the winter months, and the road leading to the pond will not be plowed.

The pond will still be accessible via regular foot traffic, but officials stress that those fishing on the body of water do so at their own risk.

"Ice fishing is not recommended, and those who decide to do so will be doing so at their own risk," City Manager Dave Millheim said. He said officials are worried ice on the body of water is not strong enough to sustain ice fishermen.
