Prep football: Grizzlies dispatch Braves, meet Leopards in 4-A final

SALT LAKE CITY -- Nobody seems able to slow the Grizzlies down.

Logan High pulled steadily away from Region 6 runner-up Bountiful on Thursday at Utah's Rice-Eccles Stadium, rolling into the state 4-A football final with a 59-30 victory in semifinal action.

Logan improved to 13-0 on the season and will meet East Nov. 18 for the title at Rice Eccles Stadium.

Grizzlies quarterback D.J. Nelson was unstoppable, setting a new state mark for total offense in a game with more than 600 yards. He rushed for two touchdowns and passed for five more scores, all to different receivers.

Logan led 10-3 after one quarter. After the Braves' Cam Zollinger and Mo Many hooked up on a TD pass to tie things up, the Region 5 champion Grizzlies scored three touchdowns through the air to put the game away.

John Schmidt rushed for a TD and caught a TD pass from Nelson. Earlier in the season, Logan beat Bountiful 56-30.

Bountiful's Richard Haddock kidk a 35-yard field goal and Tanner Redding caught four passes for 119 yards and pair of TDs.

* EAST 24, TIMPVIEW 10: In the other 4-A semifinal, the Leopards (12-1) ran to the title with a strong second half.

Liti Molis rushed for two touchdowns as East scored the final 24 points. Timpview was hurt by two interceptions.
