Solitude, Brighton open for skiing, boarding

SALT LAKE CITY -- Utah's ski and snowboard season officially starts with the opening of Solitude Mountain and Brighton resorts in Big Cottonwood Canyon.

Officials at both resorts say they will have three lifts open Thursday.

Solitude plans to open Moonbeam, Apex Express and Link lifts Thursday and the Eagle Express on Friday to provide access to a handful of runs. Lift tickets are $49.

Brighton will be running Crest, Majestic and Explorer lifts.

Brighton is offering two lift tickets for $75, or one for $38, to celebrate its 75th anniversary.

A spokesman for Brighton says active military and veterans with appropriate identification will receive free lift tickets on Friday in honor of Veterans Day.

Both resorts will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. They are reporting a base of 20-24 inches.
