Wildcats host final pair of home matches Friday, Saturday

OGDEN -- The Weber State University women's volleyball team will host its final two home matches of the 2011 season this weekend, beginning on Friday when the Wildcats take on Northern Arizona.

First serve between the Wildcats and Lumberjacks is set for 6 p.m. on Friday at Swenson Gym.

This will be the 63rd all-time meeting between Weber State and Northern Arizona. The Wildcats defeated the Lumberjacks 3-0 on Oct. 15 to earn their first win of the season, and snap a four-match losing streak in the series. NAU leads the series 34-28.

Junior outside hitter Bethany Wray continues to lead Weber State in kills, averaging 3.38 per set, and is coming off a 20-kill performance on Monday against Southern Utah.

Led by redshirt freshman Ashley Orr's 1.05 blocks per set, the Wildcats continue to be one of the Big Sky Conference's top blocking teams. Weber State is averaging 2.55 blocks per set, which is the third-highest average in the league. Orr's 1.05/set average is the sixth-best mark in the conference.

Junior middle blocker Dama Cox is currently third in the conference in aces per set, averaging .31. Wray is fourth at .30

On Saturday night, the Wildcats will wrap up the home portion of their 2011 schedule when they host Northern Colorado at 7 p.m.

It will be the 23rd all-time meeting between the Bears and Wildcats, with UNC leading the series 16-6 after a three-set victory in Greeley, Colo., on Oct. 13.

"Our crowds this season have been fantastic; they've been loud and our players have really appreciated the opportunity to play in front of our fans," Weber State coach Tom Peterson said. "I just want to say thank you to all of our fans who have supported us this season."

After this weekend's home finale, the Wildcats will wrap up their 2011 campaign on the road against Montana State and Montana.
