Bears take bite out of 'Cats in home finale

Led by junior outside hitter Kelley Arnold, the University of Northern Colorado earned a sweep of the Weber State University women's volleyball team on Saturday night at Swenson Gym.

The Bears won 25-16, 25-20, 25-20, and clinched a share of the Big Sky Conference regular season championship and the No. 1 seed in the league tournament.

The Wildcats dropped to 3-11 in league play (3-24 overall) in their final home match of the season.

Junior middle blocker Dama Cox led the way for the Wildcats with nine kills and a solo block, while junior outside hitter Bethany Wray added eight kills and 12 digs, and sophomore outside hitter Briana Wilms had seven kills for Weber State.

After not leading in the first set, the Wildcats battled with the Bears in the second and third sets, and appeared to be in solid position to extend the match in the third set before a late push by UNC sealed the three-set victory.

Weber State will wrap up its 2011 campaign on the road next week, traveling to Montana State on Friday and Montana on Saturday.
