CHEYENNE, Wyo. — The Ogden Mustangs came up short on the road yet again last weekend, dropping three important games to Mountain Conference foe, the Cheyenne Stampede.
The series started off with a bazaar game Friday night. The Stampede were up 4-1 going into the first intermission. Then the Mustangs scored 6 of the next 7 goals to go up 7-5. The Stampede came back to tie it 7-7. At that point Mustangs defenseman Jesse Love was assessed a five-minute major penalty for contact to the head with 4:59 left in the game.
The Stampede scored four goals in the next three minutes while on the power play. The Mustangs answered back with the game’s final goal with 26 seconds left in regulation to make it an 11-8 final.
Ogden’s Ricky Green and Kody Rodriguez both scored two goals in the game, while Dax Hobbs notched a hat trick for the Mustangs.
Saturday’s game was a little less crazy, but had the same result. Again, the Mustangs went down early. Again, they came back to tie the game. But that was all in the first period, making it 2-2 going into the second. The Stampede scored the next three goals, and it was a 6-3 final. Green, Rodriguez and Kevin Collins recorded goals.
On Sunday, the Mustangs showed plenty of life, but still came up on the end of a 4-3 overtime battle.
Ogden scored three power-play tallies, with goals from Lukas Moudry, Devon Detillieux and Rodriguez. Alex Glockner stopped 47 Stampede shots before giving up the OT goal.
Having played 12 games over the past five weekends, the Mustangs get this coming weekend off. They will then head to Boulder, Colo., Nov. 25-27 for the final three games of what will be 12 straight on the road. The Mustangs are back home in Ogden Dec. 2 and 3 to face the Idaho Junior Steelheads.
