UDOT to close two highways for winter

OGDEN — The Utah Department of Transportation announced Saturday that State Road 39, the Monte Cristo Highway, and State Road 65, the Big Mountain Highway, will close for the winter season Tuesday.

S.R.39 will be closed from Mile Marker 37, near Ant Flat Road east of Huntsville, to Mile Marker 56, near Woodruff.

S.R.65 will be closed from Mile Marker 3, near its junction with Emigration Canyon Road in Salt Lake County, to Mile Marker 14, which is approximately 1.5 miles south of East Canyon Resort in Morgan County.

These sections of S.R.39 and S.R.65 to be closed are seasonal roadways, and UDOT believes it is impractical and not worth the cost to keep them open during the winter because of extremely deep snowfalls and severe ice. The roadways will reopen to all vehicles in spring 2011.

Further information about other winter highway closures can be obtained by calling 511 or visiting http://utahcommuterlink.com.
