'Confused' woman nearly hits students while driving the wrong way

CLEARFIELD -- An elderly woman nearly hit seven junior high school students when she was driving the wrong way.

The woman, estimated to be in her 70s, was driving a sedan south in a northbound lane on State Street around 2:30 p.m., Davis County Sheriff's Sgt. Susan Poulsen said. Seven junior high students were in a crosswalk at 700 South, and the woman drove around them to avoid hitting them, Poulsen said.

A deputy saw this and pulled the woman over. She told the deputy she had been in a left-hand turning lane and got confused.

The woman was not cited. Her daughter, a passenger, switched places with her, Poulsen said.
