PROVO -- A 24-year-old woman has died after her parachute failed to open properly during a BASE jump in Rock Canyon.
Provo fire officials say the woman jumped off a cliff in the northern part of the canyon Tuesday afternoon and fell about 150 feet.
Deputy Chief Gary Jolley said that it's not clear if the woman's parachute failed completely or opened too late.
Jolley says rescuers were unable to save the woman. A crew of firefighters and mountain rescuers went in to recover her body.
The woman was a University of Utah student and an experienced BASE jumper.
The woman's name has not been released.
