The Road Home works to help people step out of homelessness and back into the community. Volunteers are needed to play with children while their parents are in a family team meeting with their case manager. The playroom is open 7-8 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays. Also, from 1-4 p.m every Thursday each month, volunteers are needed to help clients move from the shelter into housing. Treehouse Children's Museum is looking for youth to volunteer in the Teens at Treehouse program. They'll be helping with art, theater and storytelling. Youth must be between the ages of 16-18. Utah Museum of Natural History at University of Utah is looking for people to volunteer as Museum Gallery Interpreters and Discovery Cart Volunteers. AARP Tax-Aide, the largest free tax-preparation service in the country, is looking for volunteer tax counselors to prepare basic income taxes at no charge for seniors and low- and moderate-income taxpayers from Feb. 1-April 15. This community service is provided at local senior centers or libraries. Basic tax knowledge and computer literacy is required, and Spanish speakers are needed. American Cancer Society is dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives, and diminishing suffering from cancer through research, education, advocacy, and service. Cottages of Hope provides free income tax preparation through Volunteer Income Tax Assistance or the VITA Program for low to moderate income households. Tax preparation will start the end of January and go through April 15th, with training beginning the first two weeks in January. Davis/Weber Rocky Mountain Hospice needs volunteers. Our volunteers provide respite care, companionship, and assistance to terminally ill patients and their families.
