WSU volleyball to finish season this weekend

The Weber State University women's volleyball team will wrap up its 2011 season this weekend then the Wildcats travel to the Big Sky state to face Montana State and Montana.

The Wildcats will take on the Bobcats at 7 p.m. tonight at Shroyer Gym. Weber State dropped a five-set heart-breaker to Montana State earlier this season at home, falling 16-14 in the decisive fifth set.

This will be the 62nd meeting of the two teams, with Weber State holding a 32-29 lead in the series. The road team has won the last three meetings in the series.

The Wildcats (3-11 Big Sky, 3-24 overall) currently lead the Bobcats (2-10, 4-23) by one game for eighth place in the league standings. MSU split two matches with Cal State Bakersfield over the past weekend.

On Saturday night, Weber State will take on Montana at 7 p.m. in West Auxiliary Gym. The Grizzlies defeated the Wildcats 3-1 in Ogden earlier this season and have won five straight in the series, which Montana leads 43-26. This will be the 70th meeting between the two teams.

Montana is coming off a 3-0 loss to Sacramento State on Saturday night and will host Idaho State on Friday night before its season finale against the Wildcats.

* 'CATS ADD SETTER FROM TEXAS: Weber State volleyball team coach Tom Peterson announced the Wildcats have signed Whitney Hunt to a national letter of intent.

Hunt, a 5-foot-11 setter from Amarillo, Texas, joins the Wildcats from Randall High School in Amarillo.

"Whitney is a very experienced player that has played volleyball at a high level, both in club and in high school, for a number of years," Peterson said. "Whitney is a big recruit for us and fills an important need that we have."

Hunt is a three-year letterwinner at Randall, where her team was state 4-A champions in Texas during her sophomore season and a regional finalist last season. Her team this season is in the state semifinals.
