WSU volleyball falls 3-1 in Big Sky, season finale

MISSOULA, Mont. -- Juniors Bethany Wray and Dama Cox each had 12 kills to lead with Weber State University women's volleyball team on Saturday night, but the curtain come down on the 2011 season in a four-set loss to the University of Montana at West Auxiliary Gym.

Led by Amy Roberts' 16 kills, the Grizzlies rallied to capture a 21-25, 25-10, 25-17, 27-25 victory over the Wildcats in the season finale for both teams.

Wray added 10 digs, notching her fifth double-double of the season and her team-best 19th match in double-figures kills.

Sophomores Briana Wilms and Piper Wahlin each had seven kills, while Wilms added six blocks and Wahlin had four.

Junior setter Caitlin Penrod added 31 assists and eight digs for the Wildcats (3-13 Big Sky, 3-26 overall).

Weber State won the first set behind 19 kills and a .457 attack percentage.

Montana came roaring back in the second and third sets, seizing a 2-1 lead in the match.

The Wildcats appeared in control of the fourth set until a late Grizzlies rally that saw Montana overcome set point twice and score the final three points of the match.

With no seniors on the squad, first-year coach Tom Peterson will get the Wildcats' sights set on the 2012-13 campaign.
