Davis County horses win show championships

FORT WORTH, Texas -- American Paint Horses, Undeniably Special and Raging On Whiskey, owned by Sandee Shock of Clinton, Utah, captured World Show Championship titles recently at the 2011 APHA World Championship Paint Horse Show. The show, held November 2-12 in Fort Worth, Texas, is one of the American Paint Horse Association's (APHA's) premier events.

Undeniably Special, a 2009 gelding, captured the championship in Non-Pro 2-Year-Old Western Pleasure Slot and was shown by Sandee Shock of Clinton, Utah. In this class, competitors demonstrate smooth movements and good disposition at the walk, jog and lope as a group in both directions on the rail. At the end of the class they are individually asked to back their horses.

Slot classes are limited-entry events in which contestants purchase a slot in the competition ahead of time, then later name the horse and exhibitor who will compete. Exhibitors compete for cash prizes.

Raging On Whiskey, a 2010 filly, won the Breeders' Futurity Bronze In Hand Trail and Breeders' Futurity Bronze Yearling Longe Line classes, exhibited by Cooper Evans of West Bountiful, Utah. In the trail class, exhibitors guide their yearlings through a typical trail course while on a lead. Horses are judged on their ability to negotiate six to eight obstacles one might find on a trail, as well as demonstrate a pleasurable walk and jog in a responsive and willing manner. In the longe line class, exhibitors circle their yearlings on a longe line at the walk, jog and lope.

The Breeders' Futurity classes feature a prestigious competition in a select slate of classes designed to showcase the offspring of APHA Breeders' Trust-subscribed stallions and mares bred to these stallions. Exhibitors compete for cash prizes.

The World Championship Paint Horse Show features the finest gathering of Paint Horses from around the globe. APHA hosts two annual world-class competitions to showcase the talents of American Paint Horses and their owners. The second in the 2011 series, the Open and Amateur World Championship Show was held at the Will Rogers Memorial Center in Fort Worth's cultural district. With over 1,000 talented Paint Horses and more than 2,500 entries, exhibitors competed for prizes and cash payouts totaling $500,000.
