Donald LeRoy and Marjorie Palmer Wright will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Nov. 22. A party was held in their honor in Layton on Nov. 19.
While on leave from the U.S. Navy, he met his future wife, who was working for his father. They married shortly after on Nov. 22, 1961, in Ogden. Their vows were later solemnized in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Laie, Hawaii Temple.
He retired from the military in 1977 and brought his wife back to live near her family in Logan. After he retired from Utah State University in 2001, they moved to Layton.
Their adventures together have taken them from Park Valley, where she was born, to Hawaii, California and Logan. Fulfilling a lifelong dream, they served two LDS Church missions together in Seattle; Seoul, South Korea; and a third mission in the Layton Employment Resource Center.
Their six children and spouses are Kayelani Huff, Julie and John Clawson, Alan and Rachelle Wright, Karie Wright, Chad and Melissa Wright, and Marianne Wright. They have 17 grandchildren.
They enjoy being together and especially enjoy their grandchildren. She enjoys making memories with her camera, and he enjoys telling a joke or playing with the grandchildren.
