The Thanksgiving Invitational swimming meet at South Davis Recreation Center is fast becoming one of the top early meets in the Utah prep season.
With several top teams from Salt Lake City and southern Utah in the pool, Top of Utah teams still held their own in the non-scoring meet.
Individual winners on the boys side included Davis' Sam Bryson in the 50 freestyle and teammate Zach Santella in the 100 butterfly. Weber's Chandler Ward won the 100 freestyle, and Viewmont's Josh Meyers was tops in the 500 freestyle.
On the girls side, Mountain Crest's Hailey Pabst won the 200 freestyle and keyed the Mustangs' win in the 200 freestyle relay.
Recruiting class
Dealing with the college athletic recruitment process can be an overwhelming undertaking for many students-athletes and families, and nobody understands this better than the NCSA Athletic Recruiting team.
On Nov. 30, sports training expert and NCSA educational speaker Paul Putnam will be at Box Elder High School to offer advice and guidance on how to maximize your chances of receiving a college athletic scholarship.
NCSA Athletic Recruiting is pleased to offer all families free admission to attend the seminar, "College Recruiting Simplified," at 7 p.m.
Bowling begins
The Northern Utah Prep Bowling League began competition on Nov. 3, and will continue weekly play on Thursdays at local bowling centers.
The season runs through mid-February. Weekly results will appear in the Standard-Examiner Sports Plus page on Thursdays.
Gladwell honored
The National Federation of State High School Associations will award citations to eight high school athletic directors Dec. 12 in Indianapolis, presented annually to outstanding athletic directors in recognition of contributions to interscholastic athletics at the local, state and national levels.
This year's award winners included Craig Gladwell, athletic director at Lehi High School.
Gladwell is a former Mount Ogden Junior High teacher/coach and also worked in several Idaho schools. As basketball coach at North Sevier High School, his teams won four state championships.
The NFSHS will also honor Richard Barton, athletic director/assistant principal at Richfield High School with a distinguished service award.
