TAYLORSVILLE -- Officials in Taylorsville are turning down a citizen's request to ban pit bulls in town, although they say they'll look to strengthen a vicious animals ordinance.
City Council Chair Jerry Rechtenbach (WRECK'-tin-bock) said in a statement over the weekend that enforcing a breed-specific ban could be problematic, and the council has no ordinance in the works about pit bulls.
Taylorsville Mayor Russ Wall says owners should be held responsible for out-of-control pets. Wall says stronger rules on vicious animals could send a message to pet owners that they won't be tolerated.
The pit bull ban was brought up by a resident at a recent City Council meeting and discussed at a subsequent meeting.
