Website defending Mormonism adopts softer name

SALT LAKE CITY -- A website that seeks to correct misinformation about Mormonism in news reports says it's taking on a new, less confrontational name.

The website dubbed "The Mormon Defense League" took on the new name "MormonVoices" on Monday.

The site is operated by the nonprofit Foundation for Apologetic Information and Research, which offers resources about the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints but is not owned, controlled or affiliated with it.

Foundation leaders tell the Deseret News (http://bit.ly/vWlWOL ) the LDS church is increasingly in the media with Mitt Romney and Jon Huntsman in the presidential race, and Harry Reid as Senate Majority Leader.

Foundation officials say the new name is less confrontational and reflects the idea of Mormons getting involved online to offset offensive stereotypes.
