WSU’s Cox, Wray earn Big Sky volleyball honors

OGDEN — The Big Sky Conference announced its All-Conference volleyball team and individual award winners Thursday, with Weber State junior right side/middle blocker Dama Cox being named as the league’s Newcomer of the Year.

Cox had 248.5 total points, 174 kills, 77 blocks, and 30 service aces. She saw action in 100 of a possible 106 sets this season, one of just four players to play in more than 100 sets.

The Fernley, Nev., native joined Weber State as a junior college transfer from the College of Southern Idaho in Twin Falls, Idaho.

Also honored by the league’s head coaches on Thursday was junior outside hitter Bethany Wray, who was named All-Big Sky honorable mention after leading the Wildcats in kills and scoring 404.5 total points.

The team was selected by the league coaches, who were not allowed to vote for their own student-athletes.
