BOULDER, Colo. -- The Ogden Mustangs ended their stretch of 12-straight games on the road, dropping three straight Western States Hockey League contests to the Boulder Bison last weekend.
Ogden went (2-9-1) during the road trip, and return home for games against the Idaho Junior Steelheads on Friday and Saturday at The Ice Sheet.
The Bison (17-2-2) opened the weekend series with a dominant 9-0 victory on Friday. Boulder scored five of those goals in the second half of the third period. Ogden goaltenders Alex Glockner and Aleksi Kiviranta faced 54 shots in the game. The Mustangs only mustered 28.
The Mustangs came closer on Saturday, losing 8-3. Ogden's Dax Hobbs opened the scoring early in the first period, but the Bison answered with five straight goals. Kody Rodriguez added the other Mustang goals.
On Sunday, the Mustangs fell 7-2 after a solid first period start fizzled away. Devon Detillieux scored a pair of early Ogden goals, and the Mustangs led 2-1. Trailing 3-2 after one period, the Mustangs couldn't generate any more offense.
Ogden struggled to find an answer for Western States Hockey League leading scorer Chris Giudatti. The Bison forward had his highest-scoring game of the season Saturday night, tallying five points. He leads the WSHL with 41 points in 18 games.
The Mustangs now fall to (3-17-1) in what has been a challenging start to their inaugural season in Ogden. They'll look to gain some momentum from potential home wins this weekend, heading into what should be a lighter schedule in the second half of the season. In their first 21 games, the Mustangs have played 14 of them on the road. In their next 21 games, they'll play 14 of them at home.
