Prep basketball: Austin's Lions edge host Jayhawks in overtime

OGDEN -- The Jayhawks are getting plenty of practice at close games.

Last week, St. Joseph's boys basketball squad pulled out a two-point win over Dugway. On Wednesday, the Jayhawks dropped a 56-51 overtime battle to Rowland Hall-St. Mark's on their home court.

"It was an exciting game," St. Joseph coach Chad Loosemore said. "It got pretty loud in our little gym, a fun game to coach."

Rowland Hall used 22 points from Wesley Austin to build a slight lead early in the third period. But Jordan Jones hit a pair of back-to-back 3 pointers to help spur a comeback. Both teams scored eight points in the fourth period, setting up the OT.

David Donlevy led St. Joseph with 16 points, while Sebastien Pomeroy added 12 points and Jones chipped in with 11.

The difference in the contest was five more three throws by the Winged Lions.

* MORGAN 55, JUAN DIEGO 49: At Draper, the Trojans trailed by six after three quarters but outscored the home team 23-9 in the final period to run away with the game.

Boston Saunders tallied 21 points on the night, while Jake Miles added 19 for the Trojans. Garret Kunz scored 10 for the visiting team.

* SKY VIEW 56, BEAR RIVER 34: At Smithfield, the Bobcats got it rolling at home and outscored the Bears in every quarter.

Casey Oliverson and Riley Knowles scored 16 points apiece for Sky View, while Jalen Moore added 15 points.

Wade Miller scored nine points to lead Bear River, which managed just 10 field goals on the night.

* LOGAN 73, UINTAH 50: At Logan, the Grizzlies' basketball squad imitated their football team with a strong offensive output.

Logan led 45-28 at halftime. Russell Murphy scored 20 points, and

* BEN LOMOND 58, NORTH SUMMIT 35: At Coalville, the Scots tipped off a busy week with a solid road victory.

Defensively, we played a lot better on the night," Ben Lomond coach Ryan Wilcox said. "We also shot 17-of-24 from the free throw line which is a big improvement. I was also pleased with our assists. I think the guys were very unselfish in their play."

With the score tied at 13 after one period, Ben Lomond outscored host North Summit 35-11 in the middle quarters. Josh Hardin led the Scots with 17 points, while Sage Eastburn and Sterling Brandley each added nine points and Nate Watkins added eight.

The Scots host Roy, Layton Christian and South Summit in the Ben Lomond Classic on Friday and Saturday.

Makay Fristrup led a balanced North Summit attack with nine points.

* HIGHLAND 51, VIEWMONT 44: At Bountiful, the host Vikings lost a close one despite 12 points from McKay Richens and 11 from Brody Bagshaw.

Highland led 11-0 early and maintained the lead throughout. David Divver scored 19 for the Rams.
