John Clyde Stone

John Clyde Stone of Washington Terrace/Huntsville celebrated his 80th birthday on Dec. 3 with friends at McDonald's and later at family dinner.

He was born Dec. 3, 1931, in Ogden to Clyde Ray and Lois Michelson Stone in Ogden. At age 2, he was moved to Huntsville to live with his grandparents Jesse and John H. Michelson. He graduated from Weber High School.

He married Esther Ruth Bennett on Dec. 22, 1956, in Idaho Falls, Idaho.

He enjoyed being a member of the Junior Chamber of Commerce (Jaycees), serving as local president, state chairman for two years, and president of the Wasatch Front Jaycees, where he made many lifelong friends. He was a member of the Washington Terrace Planning Commission for 15 years.

He was employed at Hill Air Force Base for more than 36 years, starting as a laborer in the scrap lumber area and advancing to an engineering technician in the missile division, supporting the refurbishment of the Minuteman Missile System.

His children and spouses are Terry Alan Stone, Powers, Ore.; Susan and Brent Christensen, Ogden; Dawn and Larry Ropelato, Hooper; and Bennett John Stone, Joiner, Ark.

He has 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
