Cache man pleads not guilty to stealing trade secrets

SALT LAKE CITY -- A scientist has pleaded not guilty to charges that he stole trade secrets from a Cache County chemistry company.

Forty-two-year-old Prabhu Mohapatra entered the pleas in Salt Lake City's federal court on Thursday.

Mohapatra was charged in November with one count of theft of trade secrets. Prosecutors have since added another theft charge, plus two counts of computer fraud. Mohapatra pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Trial is set for Feb. 13.

If convicted on all counts, he faces up to 10 years in prison.

Authorities say Mohapatra e-mailed drug recipes from his then-employer Frontier Scientific Inc. to a relative in India. Investigators say that man was setting up a competing company.

Court papers show Mohapatra's moves were tracked on a company computer. He remains free pending trial.
