Climbing store suspect arrested

OGDEN — A man was arrested early Thursday morning on suspicion of burglarizing at least three climbing stores along the Wasatch Front.

Managers of climbing stores in Ogden, Orem and Salt Lake City believed the same man had hit their stores in the past month.

Someone called West Jordan Police and identified the man in the Ogden store’s surveillance footage as Benjamin Danford, 30, said Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal.

West Jordan officers picked Danford up at a home on the 3900 West block of Winthorpe Drive at 12:45 a.m.

Unified police later turned him over to Orem police, Hoyal said.

Shad Burnham, shop manager for Front Climbing Club in Ogden, said he was excited about the arrest. All of the Ogden store’s stolen property was in Danford’s vehicle, though the items cannot be resold because once property leaves the store, its quality can no longer be guaranteed, Burnham said.
