LAS VEGAS -- Kaycee Feild wrapped up his first bareback world championship Friday night in the National Finals Rodeo, finishing fourth in the ninth round with an 83-point ride on Hypnotic.
Feild, from Payson, has won five NFR rounds and has earned $256,236 this season. Second-place Will Lowe of Canyon, Texas, has $193,307 with one round left.
"I didn't realize I'd won it, actually," Feild said. "I knew I had to do good tonight to win it. I wished I could have done a little better tonight, but I'm just happy as I can be.
"I'm already thinking about the next one (world championship)," Feild said. "(I'll) just go and watch tapes and try to come back and do better."
Feild, the son of Hall of Famer Lewis Feild, has earned $115,577 in the rodeo to top all competitors.
Feild also leads in the NFR aggregate standings with a nine-ride total of 773.5 points. Bobby Mote of Culver, Ore., is second with nine rides for 748 points.
In steer wrestling, Luke Branquinho of Los Alamos, Calif., tied for first in 3.6 seconds to increase his lead over Jason Miller, of Lance Creek, Wyo., in the world standings.
In team roping, header Clay Tryan of Billings, Mont., and heeler Travis Graves of Jay, Okla., stayed in first place in the standings with $160,226 each by placing second in 3.7.
In saddle bronc riding, NFR aggregate leader Jesse Wright of Milford had his fourth round victory with an 87 on Cimmaron Jack.
Taos Muncy of Corona, N.M., the season leader with $209,818, tied for second with an 82 on Chuckulator. He is $14,309 ahead of second-place Wright.
In tie-down roping, Tuf Cooper of Decatur, Texas, remained in first place in the world standings with $181,368, but he was unable to wrap up the championship because he broke the start barrier, was given a 10-second penalty and finished with a time of 16.8.
In barrel racing, world leader Brittany Pozzi of Victoria, Texas, finished third in 13.88. Pozzi stayed in first in the world standings with $192,725, while Lindsay Sears of Nanton, Alberta, remained second with $178,864.
In bull riding, LJ Jenkins of Porum, Okla., took over first place in the NFR with 413.5 points on five rides.
