A former Ben Lomond High graduate was recently inducted into the NJCAA Hall of Fame.
Ray Butcher, a former Arizona Western College athletic director and longtime Matadors' football coach, was named to the athletic hall of fame for junior college athletics along with his 1972 championship squad.
Butcher graduated from Ben Lomond in 1957, and played football at Utah State University. He later coached at several Utah high schools and colleges before spending about 40 years as a member of the Arizona Western athletic department.

This week, Top of Utah teams will split for a pair of big weekend events: the Warrior Duels at Weber High, and the Viewmont Invitational at Viewmont High.
Action begins Friday afternoon for both events, and Saturday morning.
Southern Utah University junior Analaine Pelaez-Mailoto has been named to the COBRA Magazine all-West Region team.
Pelaez-Mailoto -- a former Fremont High star -- led the Thunderbird attack in 2011 with a team-best 515 kills, averaging 4.15 per set. She was also tops on the team with 375 digs and 31 service aces.
The award is Pelaez-Mailoto's second of the postseason, having already garnered her third consecutive first-team all-Summit League honor.
COBRA magazine's purpose is to celebrate the success of volleyball players of African as well as Samoan and Tongan descent in hopes of encouraging young girls of those ethnic groups across the country to pursue the sport.
After 32 years as a print publication, the National High School Sports Record Book has officially moved online and can be accessed on the National Federation of State High School Associations Web site at www.nfhs.org/recordbook.
The Record Book contains all-time records for boys and girls in 16 high school sports. Visitors to the site can select from the menu of sports, and will have the option to search for specific records across all sports in the Record Book.
In addition, new entries will be posted in the Record Book on an ongoing basis once the record performances are verified. Previously, records were updated annually with the printing of the book.
The first edition of the National High School Sports Record Book was published in 1978.
