UTA bus hits, injures woman in West Valley City

WEST VALLEY CITY -- A 24-year-old woman is suffering two badly broken legs after she was struck by a commuter bus in West Valley City.

West Valley Police Sgt. Mike Powell says the woman was in a crosswalk about 10:30 a.m. when a Utah Transit Authority bus turning left hit her and ran over her legs.

Police say it appears the bus driver didn't see the pedestrian and failed to yield. Powell says the driver will likely be cited.

UTA officials tell the Salt Lake Tribune they put the driver on administrative leave and will conduct standard drug and alcohol tests.

The woman's name has not been released. Authorities say her injuries do not appear to be life-threatening.
