Layton hoteliers named 'Stars of the Industry'

FARMINGTON -- Two Top of Utah "managers" with the Hilton Garden Inn/Davis Conference Center have captured statewide recognition from the Utah Hotel and Lodging Association.

Hilton Garden Inn/Davis Conference Center General Manager Scott Lunt and hotel/center manager Connie Harmston received "Stars of the Industry Awards," each respectively capturing "general manager of the year" and "outstanding manager of the year."

The awards were presented to the pair at the association's annual convention held Nov. 10-11 at the Salt Lake City Center.

Hilton Garden Inn/Davis Conference Center Chef Enrique Yescas, who has been with the center for five years, was also recognized by the association for a third place finish within his category.

The trio from the center/hotel located in Layton were recognized by the Davis County Commission on Tuesday.

Lunt said he was honored to receive the award, while Harmston, who has been in the business for over 30 years, expressed appreciation for being able to work in such an industry.

"I don't know where we would be without the leadership of Scott Lunt, who has assembled this team," Davis County Commissioner Bret Millburn said.

"We thank you for being part of that ambassadorship in welcoming people to the county," Commissioner Louenda Downs said of the trio.

"We couldn't do it without them," Community and Economic Development Director Kent Sulser said.

The Davis Conference Center and adjoining Hilton Garden Inn is a public/private joint venture.

Farmers Insurance hosts the annual "Stars of the Industry Awards" luncheon. Utah hoteliers are nominated by their peers for exceptional performance displayed in the workplace.
