Watch for icy road conditions

OGDEN — If commuters did not like the road conditions Wednesday, today will do little to brighten their spirits.

Icy conditions contributed to numerous traffic accidents throughout the Top of Utah on Wednesday.

Expect similar road conditions today, said National Weather Service meteorologist Chris Young.

Like Wednesday, there will be patches where the road surface is slippery, Young said, and temperatures should be in the low 20s.

“There will be patchy, slippery spots,” Young said, “but for the most part, it will just be wet.”

Before 9 a.m. Wednesday, the Utah Highway Patrol responded to mostly minor incidents, UHP Cpl. Todd Johnson said, but the incidents included a six-vehicle accident on U.S. 89 in Willard. Victims suffered only minor injuries.

There were no more reported serious accidents related to ice on the highways in the afternoon or evening, Johnson said.

Davis County Dispatch Center reported two slide-offs in the area, with no injuries.

The slide-offs were single-car accidents, one on southbound U.S. 89 at the Interstate 15 on-ramp and another on southbound Legacy Parkway near Interstate 215.

Pleasant View Police Officer Kyley Slater said a Honda lost control on the ice and crashed into a Peterbilt flatbed truck in the next lane at 1500 West and 2700 North. There were no injuries.

The Weber Area Consolidated Dispatch Center reported a few slide-offs in the evening hours, but no significant accidents.

The roads may stay slippery today, and although there is little chance of precipitation today, Young said, isolated snowstorms are possible.

“Anything that hits the road is going to be frozen in the morning,” Young said. “The big problem is going to be patchy fog.”

The good news, he said, is there is not enough snow on the ground to produce a dense fog.
