Warriors nip Lakers in overtime thriller

WASHINGTON TERRACE -- Cross-county rivals Weber and Bonneville squared off in non-league girls basketball action, and it took overtime to sneak north with a 40-37 victory on Thursday night.

The Lakers battled back to forge overtime with a big fourth period, but went scoreless in the extra period. The Warriors, meanwhile, improved to 6-0 on the young season.

Erin Reichle tallied a trio of 3-pointers and finished with 14 points for Weber. Erica Olpin added seven points and Chantil Martin and Kristine Broome scored six each.

Emily Volk scored 17 points and added seven rebounds. Abby Toller checked in with eight points for Lakers, now 5-2 on the season.

Region 11

* MORGAN 75, BEN LOMOND 42: At Ogden, despite a strong individual effort by the Scots' Taylor Hughes, the Trojans ran away from the host school in league action.

Morgan won every quarter in improving to 2-0 in region play, 4-3 overall.

Rashel Blazzard scored 17 points, McKenzie Schenk added 16 and Kassie Nagel added 11 points.

Hughes finished with 26 points, while teammate Jordan Valdez added eight points, including a pair of 3-pointers for the Scots, 0-2 in league, 1-6 overall.

* BEAR RIVER 47, OGDEN 37: At Garland, the Bears stayed unbeaten in league play with a hard-fought win over the Tigers.

The Bears built a halftime edge, only to see the Tigers come back and cut the lead to two after three quarters.

The Bears got balanced scoring, with Sarah Huber scoring a dozen, Jordan Theurer adding 11. Bear River is 2-0, 5-3 overall.

Morgan Jones led Ogden (1-1, 3-4) with 13 points, while Kelsey East chipped in with 10.

In the other region game, Tooele topped Stansbury 45-35.

Non-league

* KEARNS 53, CLEARFIELD 47: At Kearns, a strong second half by the Falcons made things interesting but Clearfield couldn't quite overome the deficit.

Down 30-18 at the half, the Falcons (1-5 overall) rallied. Chelsea Youngberg scored 15 points, including three 3-pointers, while Saige Marsh added nine points.

Kearn's Micaelee Orton led her team with 23 points and 12 rebounds. Rachel Graham had four 3-pointers and 17 points.

* ST. JOSEPH 36, GRANTSVILLE 24: At Ogden, the Jayhawks got defensive at home, turning 10 steals into a bunch of easy baskets and a non-league win. St. Joseph outscored Grantsville 10-2 in the third period. Katie Berry scored 13 points, Katie Panushka added 11 points and three steals and Mady White added sixt points and three steals.

Carrera Brown added nine rebounds and four assists for the Jayhawks, 4-1 overall.

In other games, North Summit topped Park City 45-33, and Logan whipped Payson 54-24.

Boys basketball

* DAVIS 63, MOUNTAIN VIEW, ARIZ. 56: At the Great Western Shootout in Orem, the Darts played a steady game but had to hold off the Arizona team at the end.

A 18-for-28 effort at the foul line didn't help Davis, now 6-1 on the season. The Darts led by 15 after three quarters.

Able Porter scored 16 points, Cole Hally added 15 and Tyson Denney added 14 points for the Darts. Braden Koelliker added eight points, five rebounds and a pair of steals.
