CENTERVILLE -- Fresh on the heels of Thursday's announcement by State Senator Dan Liljenquist, R-Bountiful, not to seek re-election to the Legislature, former Woods Cross City Councilman Todd Weiler and Bountiful trial attorney Greg Ericksen have both thrown their hats into the ring for the vacancy.
Other candidates, including Randy Shumway of North Salt Lake, have also officially declared their candidacy for the Senate District 23 vacancy, according to Davis GOP leadership.
"Although it is no secret that I am interested in filling the vacancy created by Liljenquist's departure, I felt that it was important to give Liljenqquist and his family as much time as they needed to make this important decision," said the 44-year-old Weiler in an e-mail to the Standard-Examiner.
"Liljenquist is an amazing person, and I thank him for his service during the past three years," Weiler said.
