Hot potato! Bowl game to donate some serious spuds

These Aggie athletes keep busy on and off their fields of play.

Utah State's football squad has spent the week enjoying activities surrounding the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl in Boise, Idaho. They'll meet Ohio in today's big game, with 84,000 potatoes on the line.

Did you get that?

The Idaho Grower Shippers Association will donate three potatoes to The Idaho Foodbank for each fan at the bowl, which could amount to as much as 42,000 pounds of spuds.

Shop with a Jock

Meanwhile back in Logan, USU athletics teamed up with eFORCE Software for its annual Shop with a Jock event.

Youth participants were nominated by a local elementary school. The day began with an autograpy session at the Smith Spectrum, followed by shopping with partners. They also looked out for girst for their parents and siblings as well.

"My favorite part about the experience was the bus ride. I sat next to a little boy that couldn't contain his excitement about the fact that he was about to go to pick out some great things to have a great Christmas," said volleyball junior Shay Sorensen, a former Weber High graduate. "Seeing those kids faces all light up at the sight of some new toys and clothes reminded me of all I have," said Sorensen. "This experience really shows me what the Christmas season is all about -- giving to others."

Not to be outdone, USU's volleyball team participated in a Dig For A Cure campaign in October, and raised over $1600 for the American Cancer Society.
