SOUTH OGDEN -- Throughout the month of December, area residents are invited to dedicate a Christmas light at the Mount Benedict Monastery Christmas Grove to someone they wish to honor.
It's a tradition designed to raise money for area social service organizations while touting the memories or accomplishments of people in whose names lights are dedicated, organizers say.
Money raised goes to support organizations funded each year by the St. Benedict's Foundation, the fundraising arm of the Catholic Sisters of Mount Benedict Monastery.
A money donation in any amount is all that's required to dedicate a light.
The dedication includes a card announcing the gift that is sent to the person honored. In cases where the person is deceased, the card is sent to their family.
The Christmas Grove lights will remain on from about 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. each night throughout the Christmas season at the monastery and the community is invited to visit the grounds at any time to see them, say organizers.
The monastery is at 1075 E. 6000 South. To dedicate a light, visit email@example.com or call 801-479-1800.
