Seniors in Bountiful to receive lectures on music

BOUNTIFUL -- University of Utah emeritus music professor Lewis Phelps and friends will present four free Thursday lectures on "America's Vernacular Songs" at the Golden Years Senior Activity Center in Bountiful, 726 S. 100 East.

The four-lecture series, to be held from 2:30 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. on consecutive Thursdays, begins Jan. 19 with "Ladies of Vaudeville," featuring soprano RaeLynn Wheeler.

Other lectures include "Songs of Irving Berlin," featuring soprano Tammy Harris, on Jan. 26; "Our Irish Heritage," featuring tenor Gary Whipple, on Feb. 2; and "Songs of Kern, Porter, Greshwin and others," featuring medium soprano Mary Ann Dresher, on Feb. 9.
