OGDEN -- Satya presents its annual winter solstice celebration and open house at 7 p.m. Thursday.
The festivities begin with a candle-lighting ceremony followed by Terelle Wickham performing kirtan, which involves chanting devotional mantras. Kirtan, also known as Bhakti Yoga, is translated from Sanskrit "to celebrate in song."
During intermission, refreshments will be served and spiritually inspired art will be displayed in the Satya Gallery, featuring Vivianne and Rault Peterson.
"This time of year can be overwhelming with all the additional demands such as guests, parties, shopping, plays and performances, travel, etc." said Ali Benjamin, the director of Satya. "We are offering a respite, a couple of hours off from the busyness this time of year brings. Taking time for quiet contemplation of the reason for the season will help bring inner peace amid the outer turmoil."
An offering basket will be passed for a donation; there is no additional charge for this event. Satya is a nonprofit center for conscious living and spiritual enrichment located in the Scowcroft Mansion at 795 24th St.
