PROMONTORY -- The Golden Spike National Historic Site's annual Winter Steam Festival will be Dec. 28-30 this year.
The annual event will feature Engine No. 119, an exact replica of one of the two engines that were at the site in 1869 when the transcontinental railroad was finished.
It will arrive at the last-spike site at approximately 10 a.m. and be on display until 4:30 p.m. There will be special steam demonstrations at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
The festival also features special exhibits in the visitor center. It gives rail fans and photographers a chance to see the engine in winter, when its steam is especially pronounced. In addition to witnessing the steam power of the 119, rides on the park's historic handcar and 1950s motorcar will be offered as well as cab tours of the 119.
