SALT LAKE CITY -- Officials say more than 1,000 gallons of fuel spilled when two trains sideswiped each other and derailed in a Salt Lake City train yard.
Firefighters say the engines were traveling in the same direction about 9 p.m. Monday when tracks converged and the trains collided.
The trains derailed, but did no overturn. No injuries were reported.
The Salt Lake Tribune reports that crews from Union Pacific were able to keep the fuel spill within the train yard. Salt Lake Valley Health Department officials were monitoring the cleanup.
Railroad officials are investigating why the trains merged at the same time.
