Centerville council accepts easement

CENTERVILLE — The city council accepted an easement relating to the UTOPIA facility on city hall property.

This easement is to accommodate Rocky Mountain Power and help finish the state-of-the-art fiber-optic network.

Assistant City Manager Blaine Lutz explained the tsunami in Japan created a worldwide fiber shortage because three manufacturing plants were damaged.

However, the fiber needed to complete Centerville was shipped last week, which means connections can now proceed to the neighborhoods.

“Service connections will begin to ramp up significantly in the coming weeks,” Lutz said.
